Asian markets are being flooded with vegan products this year.
But, what is a “vegan” food and what does it mean?
In 2017, there were about 2.8 million vegan products available in Australia, with a whopping 2.4 million vegan foods available on the market, according to the Australian Vegan Food Council (AVFC).
Vegan products are more varied than the typical grocery store items, with products such as tofu and soy milk being sourced from local farms.
The market for vegan foods is particularly important for Asian communities, said AVFC spokesperson Kate Rimmer, who said that many of the products available for vegan consumption are also being sold to Asian customers in grocery stores and in ethnic cafes.
“There’s a significant amount of demand for vegan products, and it’s growing at a faster rate than the mainstream market,” she said.
“It’s important for people to be able to buy vegan products from Australian-based retailers that have a history of supplying high quality products to the Asian community.”
Some of the most popular vegan products include the almond milk products from Vegans United, which has a vegan range of products, including almond milk and soymilk.
It’s not just the products that are being sourced in Australia from local farmers, however.
There are also products from the local market, such as vegan soy milk and vegan tofu.
The Asian food market has also been hit hard by the introduction of the soya bean paste as a new food.
The paste is a mixture of soya beans, wheat and coconut milk.
“We’ve seen some demand for the soys in the market,” Rimmer said.”[The Asian] market has been hit particularly hard by this.
We’ve seen a drop in demand for these products, especially the soes, so the Asian markets have been very hit.”
Vegan and vegan foods are not a niche marketVeganism is not the only food in the Asian food space.
There are also a number of vegan and vegan-friendly vegan-related products available, including vegan desserts, vegan snacks and vegan sauces, according the AVFC.
In addition to vegan food and food products, the Asian vegetarian market is also growing, with about 3.5 million products being produced each year.
For the past two years, the Australian Vegetarian & Vegan Society has been tracking the growth of the Asian and Pacific Vegetarian Market (APVMM) in order to identify emerging trends and offer advice to Australian consumers on the best way to eat vegan and vegetarian.
It is estimated that there are about 20 million people in the APVMM, which is the third largest vegetarian market in the world after China and South Korea.
“If we’re not seeing that growth we’re really concerned,” Rimmers said.
There have been several initiatives to boost the Asian consumer base in recent years.
In 2017, the Vegan & Vegan Australia (V&V Australia) initiative, launched in April 2017, gave Australian Vegans a way to advertise themselves online.
“V&Veans have an opportunity to get in front of consumers in a way that they haven’t before,” she added.
“They’re now able to promote themselves and show their brand as well as offer information about how to make their own vegan products.”
However, there are still a number issues with veganism in Australia.
Rimmer said that veganism was still in its infancy in Australia and the government still needs to work with food companies to develop a market strategy.
“Our biggest challenge in terms of educating consumers is how to ensure that the products we’re buying are sourced from the most ethical and sustainable farms,” she explained.
“To do that, we need to work in partnership with companies to get products on the shelves and in supermarkets.”
