Brazil: I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after eating the wrong diet

In March 2016, Brazilian journalist Joao Paulo Carvalho was diagnosed by a private physician with pancreatitis, the same type of cancer that had claimed the life of former football star Paulo Freire.

Carvalha, now 41, was a star player on Brazilian football’s most popular club, Fútbol de Sao Paulo, who starred for the country’s top side between 2009 and 2016.

“When I started to feel sick, I started thinking about food, because I was a vegetarian,” Carvalhal told the Brazilian news agency Agence France-Presse.

“But I was not prepared for the fact that I had pancreatic disease, which is one of the deadliest cancers.”

Carvalhos symptoms worsened and he was admitted to hospital.

“The doctor told me that I have a very rare type of pancreatic carcinoma, and I had to undergo an MRI and surgery to remove a section of my pancreas,” he said.

“It was the worst thing that had ever happened to me.”

The operation left Carvalholo with no feeling in his abdomen.

The news shocked him and he did not know what to do next.

After receiving the news, Carvalhas mother and father, a retired Brazilian football team coach and a medical specialist, started searching for answers.

“I wanted to be healthy, but I knew I had a difficult life and that I was in pain,” he told AFP.

“What should I do?”

After two months of searching, Carvarhal decided to do something drastic.

“My wife and I decided to go on a ketogenic diet.

I wanted to give myself the best possible chance of surviving,” he recalled.

After a month, Carvaho said his condition improved significantly and his pancreases became stronger.

He began eating meals with more protein and less carbohydrates.

“On the first day I felt better,” he wrote.

“We ate with no problems.

I didn’t want to be in pain anymore, so I started doing what I was doing with my family. “

At that point, I knew it was time to take action.

I was able to keep weight down and I was feeling much better.” “

After a month of eating, my blood sugars were back to normal and my weight dropped to around 120 kilograms.

I was able to keep weight down and I was feeling much better.”

Carvaheos family members also started following a keto diet.

“For the first time, I stopped going to the supermarket, and my parents began to feel more comfortable.

They did not worry about their health and food, they had to worry about how much food I could afford,” Carvaheros father told AFP, adding that they had begun to eat the foods that they were familiar with.

“This helped us to have a more normal life,” he added.

“They now know that I am not alone in this and we can enjoy eating whatever we like.”

“As a family, we have a lot of common interests, and we decided to start a new lifestyle,” Carvheos father explained.

“So we started a new diet.

We started eating healthy, and this is how it works now: We eat a ketone diet, which means we eat a mixture of foods that contains a lot more carbs than our normal diet.

The main part of this diet is grains, and potatoes, which are our main staples.”

We are also very active,” Carvinho added.

According to Carvalheos diet plan, he is following a simple system of three meals per day: a salad with meat and vegetables, a salad and rice, and a breakfast of toast and fruit. “

One of the things that we love is that we are getting better,” his father said.

“There are many advantages of this,” his son added.

After the first few months of the diet, his father noticed a dramatic improvement in his condition.

“He has had a normal weight since he started it.

My weight has dropped to 130 kilograms, and he is not getting any pain anymore,” he explained.

With this diet, Carvashos father hopes that his son will be able to achieve a long-term weight loss.

“Being able to maintain his weight is a major advantage that he will have when he is 60,” he noted.

“Having an easy and enjoyable diet makes a huge difference in your life.”
