The news comes less than two months after the food chain announced it was planning to acquire a majority stake in American supermarket chain Kroger.CEO David Lassiter announced in September that he and his colleagues would purchase Crest’s Greek Foods division and would be building a new Greek food brand based on the Greek family’s heritage.
The acquisition would give Crest a global foothold in the food industry, which has been plagued by the rise of the fast-food industry in the U.S.
According to the chain’s website, Crest is committed to serving and promoting the freshest and best Greek cuisine, offering an unparalleled level of customer service, and partnering with local businesses to deliver products and services to the community.
“Crest Foods will continue to serve our Greek communities and friends and family with the same level of quality and service we have delivered to our customers for years,” Lassit said in a statement.
“I am excited to be part of Crest, a family of dedicated and passionate Greek food lovers who are committed to making sure that the future of our Greek heritage continues to be a success.”CEO of the Greek food group, Dr. Ioannis Kontopoulos, told Reuters that the acquisition would create “a Greek brand that is globally recognized and one that will be able to compete with other food brands.”
Kroger is a global grocer and grocery chain with more than 5,000 locations.
